English Language
Developing reading comprehension and analysis; comparing and synthesising texts; planning and producing transactional, discursive and creative writing; and improving grammar, vocabulary, structure and accuracy.
English Literature
Close reading of poetry, prose and drama; exploring language, form and structure; developing informed interpretations; using textual evidence effectively; and planning and writing clear, well-supported critical essays.
Examination Preparation
Understanding assessment objectives and question wording; planning responses; managing time; practising examination tasks; learning from detailed feedback; and developing effective revision strategies.
Education before Examination
Examination technique matters, but it cannot replace secure knowledge, careful reading and independent thought. I help students learn to observe closely, draw thoughtful inferences and make well-supported judgements. These habits strengthen examination performance while also developing the confidence and intellectual independence needed for further study.
A clear, individual plan
Before tuition begins, I consider the student’s current working level, examination board, set texts and particular goals. This allows us to identify priorities and create a focused plan rather than following a generic course.
Lessons combine explanation, guided practice and independent application. Written work receives constructive feedback that shows not only what needs improvement, but how to improve it. Progress is reviewed regularly so that teaching can be adjusted as the student develops.
